Privacy Policy for Immersive Science
MyScanVR Application

Last Updated: 12 September 2026

MyScanVR lets you view your own medical scan in three dimensions on a Meta Quest headset. Because the app works with medical images, this page explains in plain terms what happens to your data. It covers MyScanVR specifically and adds to the general Immersive Science privacy policy.

Your scans stay on your headset

When you import a scan over USB or from local storage, MyScanVR copies it into the app’s own storage area on the headset and reads it there. Immersive Science does not operate a server that receives your scans, and the app has no feature that uploads them.

Your imported scan stays on the headset until you remove it. Closing the app does not delete it. MyScanVR does not modify or strip the information inside your original DICOM files, so any patient name, date of birth, or other detail recorded by the scanner remains in the copy the app holds.

There is no MyScanVR account

MyScanVR has no sign-up, no login, and no user account. We do not ask for your name, email address, or any contact information, and the app does not create a profile for you. There is nothing for you to register and nothing for us to store about your identity.

Settings the app saves

When you adjust how a scan is displayed, MyScanVR saves those display settings in a small file next to the scan data on your headset. These are viewing values such as orientation, brightness and contrast, opacity, cutaway position, and surface settings. They stay on the headset with everything else.

Diagnostic logs on the headset

Like most applications, MyScanVR writes technical log messages on the device to help diagnose problems. These logs can include the names of files and folders you opened. If you have named a folder after a patient, that name can appear in a log.

These logs remain on your headset. If you ever choose to send a log to us for support, please review it first and remove anything you do not want to share. We do not treat these logs as anonymous.

Your headset collects its own data, and we do not control it

MyScanVR runs on Meta Quest hardware. The headset’s own system software collects usage and performance information about apps running on it, such as how long an app takes to start, memory and graphics performance, and error reports. This happens at the platform level, is governed by Meta’s policies rather than ours, and we cannot switch it off on your behalf.

We have found no indication that your scan images are part of what the platform collects, and MyScanVR does not send your scans anywhere. But we want to be straightforward with you: we cannot inspect everything the headset’s system software transmits, so we will not claim that nothing at all leaves the device. To review what you can control, see Meta’s guidance on managing the data you share and Meta’s own privacy policy.

Removing your data

To remove scans that MyScanVR has stored, clear the app’s storage or uninstall the app from your headset. That removes the copies the app holds. It does not affect the original files on your USB drive or anywhere else you have saved them.

MyScanVR does not currently include a built-in button to delete individual imported scans.

MyScanVR is not a medical device

MyScanVR is for personal viewing and education. It is not a diagnostic tool and is not intended for medical diagnosis, treatment planning, or any clinical decision. The surface and display controls adjust how the image appears; they do not measure, segment organs, or calculate dose. Always consult your physician about your medical care and rely on the reports your care team provides.

Children

MyScanVR is intended for teens and adults. It is not intended for users under the age of 13, or under the minimum age that applies in your region.

Changes

We may update this page as the app changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
