Two-Handed Gestures

All gestures start with left trigger press and end with left trigger release. Complete the hand motion within about 0.2 seconds.

Gesture What to do Effect
Get gate tool Point left hand at your face, pull back, rotate 90° counter-clockwise Summons the spheroid gate shell to your hand
Snap yourself to data Both hands still, both pointing up; left hand rotates clockwise, right hand rotates counter-clockwise; hold right trigger Moves you to the data
Bring data to you Both hands still, both pointing up; left hand rotates counter-clockwise, right hand rotates clockwise; hold right trigger Moves the data to you
Show wristwatch Look at your left wrist (tilted to the side) Shows date and time on your wrist

Two-Handed Scaling

Input Action
Both grips held together Scale, translate, and rotate the data with both hands (like grabbing a 3D object)
Both grips + gate tool held Resize the gate shell (adjust X / Y / Z dimensions independently)

If another collaborator in a shared session is holding the gate, two-handed scaling is blocked to prevent conflicts.

Freeform Gating (Wand Painting)

Input Action
Left trigger hold Paint points into the gate (additive)
Left trigger double-tap Paint points out of the gate (subtractive)
Left trigger release Pause painting
Right A Finish and add the gate to the list

You can pause painting, move through the data, and resume — painted points accumulate across pause / resume cycles. Press A when done to add the gate.

Gate Hierarchy (AND Logic)

Gates are organized by indent level, like nested folders. A child gate (deeper indent) is ANDed with all ancestors above it in the list. The point count shown for each gate reflects that AND result.

Input Action
Thumbstick left Move selected gate shallower (decrease indent)
Thumbstick right Move selected gate deeper (increase indent)
Thumbstick click + up / down Reorder gate in the list (changes which gates are its ancestors)

Tips

Gate in the wrong hierarchy position? Use thumbstick click + up / down to move it to the right spot, then thumbstick left / right to set the indent level.

Want to check how an intermediate gate affects a deeper one? Delete the intermediate gate (Y twice) and watch the deeper gate’s count change. Reload saved gates to undo.

Saving gates: Gates are not saved automatically. Press the Save Gates button in the gate panel to write them to disk. Gate files are named after your dataset — for example, StarGateDemoData-Gates.csv.

Finding saved gates: On Quest, gate files are in Android/data/com.ImmersiveScienceLLC.StarGateVR/files/. On desktop, look in C:\Users[you]\AppData\LocalLow\Immersive Science LLC\StarGateVR.

New to the data format? See the CSV Input Format reference page for column requirements and examples.
